I took the boys to Great Wolf Lodge Sunday for a two-night mini vacay. I'm still trying to figure out who had more fun: them or me?
As soon as we got there Sunday, around 1-ish, we got checked in (our room wasn't ready yet) and went straight for the water park. It was 3:30 before we made our way to our room (which was ready at this point) to change.
After we got into our dry clothes, we went to get the boys their MagiQuest wands (it's so hard to explain MagiQuest, other than to say it's an interactive roll-playing type adventure game that goes all over the resort! It's really quite fun (the game itself was way over Evan's head, but he still enjoyed pointing his wand at things and bringing them to life).
We met Dad & Jackie for dinner Sunday night at Red Lobster, which was super nice! And yummy, of course! When we got back to the Lodge, the boys got to pick out an animal and stuff it (like a Build-A-Bear type thing). Then we did more MagiQuest, got some ice cream, and around 9:00, we all passed out.
Sean slept until 7:00 Monday morning.... but it was Evan who surprised me. Mr. Early Riser slept until 8:00!! (I think we broke him)
Monday morning, nothing really opened until at least 9am so we ate some breakfast and watched Disney Junior (much like a normal weekend morning). I brought lots of food to eat in the room so we didn't have to buy hotel food for every meal; however, we still made our way to the Dunkin Donuts in the hotel and got sprinkle donuts, haha!
MagiQuest started at 9:00 so the boys and I were off & running on another quest, which we worked on until the water park opened at 10:00.
Throughout the course of the day Monday, we spent a grand total of about four hours at the water park (in three separate visits). In between water park fun, we did some MagiQuest, and the boys also did a game of bowling at the little bowling alley in the hotel (the lanes are half the length of regular lanes, the balls are super small and weigh probably about 4-5 pounds each, and you don't have to wear bowling shoes -- it's really quite adorable!). The Evanator taught me that it is, indeed, possible to get a gutter ball while bumper bowling. It was quite priceless.
We finished at the water park at about 6:30pm so we went back to the room and ordered pizza from my favorite Traverse City pizza place. Evan only ate one piece because he hardly eats anything, but Sean & I decimated the rest of it between the two of us HAHA!
Then, of course, we had to get ice cream and play some more MagiQuest before bed!
The boys both woke up at 7:30am this morning wondering when we could go back to the water park. Since the water park didn't open until 10:00 again, we ate breakfast (no donuts this time), then got packed up.... as they asked repeatedly why we can't just stay there forever. I chose not to tell them about the letter under our door this morning, offering us an awesome rate if we wanted to stay one more night. A really awesome rate. So awesome I actually thought about it. Except Sean can't miss another day of school and I have a big meeting tomorrow. *sigh*
We did some MagiQuest at 9:00 when it started, then just before 10:00 I took all our stuff out to the car and we went to the water park. Stayed there until 11:40ish (including some time in the family
Well, first we hit McDonalds for lunch. Then we hit the road. I was surprised that Sean didn't sleep at all on the trip home, and Evan only slept about an hour. I tried to get one of the boys to drive home for me so I could sleep, but neither of them volunteered.
So now. Tomorrow I go back to work after a lovely 4-day weekend. But at least it's only a 3-day work week so..... WIN!
