So Sean had a field trip yesterday, to the Butterfly Gardens. I also had a field trip to the Butterfly Gardens. Chaperoning field trips rocks! I had a group of five boys (including Sean) and they were total rock stars! Whenever I raised my hand up and asked
"Where are my boys?!" they all came running immediately (we mostly stuck together anyway except for in the actual butterfly room, where everyone spread out). And when we were getting off the bus to go back into the school when the field trip was over, I told them that there are other classes going on so let's be super quiet. And I'll be darned if they didn't do exactly that. They put their coats away and walked into the classroom without a peep. If I ever do another field trip, I'm totally requesting that same exact group, haha!
Okay so for the trip itself -- it was fascinating! We first went into a large enclosed room where the butterflies live. They live their entire life cycle in this environment where people can come observe. We actually got a butterfly to land on one of the kids, so they were able to pass it around a little before it flew off. The kids LOVED that!
Then we went into another room where they grow the plants that butterflies like. Each child potted a plant and got to take it home.
Then we went into a classroom where they did a presentation about butterflies (I learned things I didn't know, but the kids sure didn't -- they were familiar with everything about it!).
The weather was chilly but dry so we were able to eat our lunch outside next to the children's garden. The kids seemed to enjoy that.
