I rode a school bus today for the first time since.... ummmm.... I think since high school, actually! The seats were a lot smaller than I remember. But they were plenty big enough to fit me and my totally excited 5-year old next to me as we rode to the cider mill & pumpkin patch for a class field trip.
Despite the 40-degree windy weather (let's not talk about the fact that it was 75 & sunny only just yesterday), it was an awesome field trip! Everyone packed their lunches, which the kids ate as soon as we arrived at the cider mill. Then we enjoyed a tour that included info such as "How we make the cider" and "Why we didn't get very many apples this year." I'm not sure who was more fascinated with the information: the kindergartners or me (?).
Then we went on a hayride out to the pumpkin patch where the kids (and adults!) were able to select a pumpkin to take home. Afterward, we headed back to the 'barn' area for cider & doughnuts (yep -- sugar 'em up and send 'em back to school. Well played, mill people. Well played.).
I can't say I was heartbroken when it was time to go -- after two hours in the cold, 1/2 hour on a heated bus did my frozen digits good. But it really was a fun trip! I had a wonderful group of kids (five) who were all very well-behaved, and nothing screams "it's fall!" like a trip to the cider mill and a hayride.
