We may have pulled our house off the market, but that doesn't mean I escaped the whole "moving" thing. After who-knows-how-many-months of speculation and planning and whatever else goes into a move when you work for the State of Michigan (including, but not limited to several "We're going to move -- oh wait! No we're not's!") we actually...
...moved!
I spent the majority of last week purging and packing my office cubicle. Mostly purging. Who knew anyone could get so much STUFF into such a small area?! Some stuff was in drawers I didn't even remember I had!!
Four days later, I had 8 years worth of 8'x10' office cubicle space packed into five moving totes.
And it was moved to my new, 6'x8' office cubicle in another building.
I spent almost all of Tuesday unpacking and organizing my new space so I could spend Wednesday through Friday getting caught up on all the actual work that I didn't do last Friday & Monday (while I was geeking it up in Orlando), or Tuesday.
Overall, I love the new place! It's all brand new stuff for the most part. The walls are beige instead of blue. I have a window view (I'm not directly next to the window -- there is an aisle between the window and my cube -- but it totally works for me!). I have a new, much faster computer which is also smaller so it frees up some desk space.... It's really quite comfortable.
Parking is cheaper too! It's a slightly longer walk to the new lot where I'm parking now, but the cost is less than half of what I paid in the ramp!
Dress code in the new place is a bit stricter: no more jeans every day. But to me, that's minor -- very minor in relation to all the good stuff that comes with this move.
But the absolute best part? I'm now in the same building as Kerry for the first time since 2007!!! In fact, she's moving down to our floor at some point in the next six months! It just doesn't get any better than this!
