This past week has been nothing short of B~U~S~Y!! I started several blog entries, but I never finished any of them because sleep trumped blogging. Now it's Sunday afternoon. Evan is in bed. Sean is chillin' on the futon. And I've FINALLY carved out a few minutes to document all this stuff!!
On Tuesday, Dan's brother and his wife & kids came for a visit. Their travel from Texas was not without hiccups that had F & the boys here a good several hours before J, who had to take a different flight (I teased that Lisa left them some of her travel karma.... I don't think they were amused....haha!). But 15 hours, five different flights, two trips from Detroit and two car seats later, everyone and everything finally met at our house at 9pm Tuesday evening.
Aside from that fiasco, we had a great visit! We went to the splash park and playscape on Wednesday morning, then we just hung out Wednesday afternoon/evening. They left town Thursday mid-morning to continue their midwest family circuit.

Friday evening, the boys & I were supposed to go to a baseball game, but it was rained out. I didn't mind -- it was chilly & rainy -- a perfect evening for lounging around the house in comfy pajamas. So we did just that! It was heavenly. Sean kicked my butt in the game of Trouble -- twice!
Saturday after Evan's nap, I took him over to my Mom's, then Sean & I went to Kerry's for a local church festival. They had bounce houses, a hot air balloon launch, and fudgsicles, all of which Sean enjoyed immensely:
After the balloons had floated away and the ice cream had been consumed (except for what ended up on his face, hands, and clothes...), we went back to Kerry's where we stayed the night with her.
Then came today.
I was (am) scheduled to do a 5K on September 8th, which was supposed to be my first one. But a few weeks ago, Kerry decided it'd be a great idea to do one August 12th at this local festival, as a "practice" 5K.
Sure, why not? So we registered, and this became my first official 5K.
I completed 3.1 miles in 36:04.6. Pretty much a 12-minute mile, which is right about what I was expecting considering I've only been training a couple months. I've been averaging a 13+ minute mile on the treadmill with periods of walking in there.
I actually ran the vast majority of this race, surprising myself! I started walking just before I'd completed the 2nd mile when I hit a water station, walked for probably 60-90 seconds, then ran again until I hit (yet another) hill, and I just couldn't run up that one. So I walked the hill, ran a little longer, then walked again, then ran the rest of the race. I probably walked a total of maybe a quarter mile at the very most.
I can't believe I just did that! I really can't!
After the adult races, there were two kids races (an 800 meter run and an 80 meter sprint). Colin, Jackson, and Sean did the 800 meter (1/2 mile) run. Sean did it in about 6 minutes(ish).
Yep. Me & my kid can sure rock a 12 minute mile! Hahaha!
(Sean is in the middle of this picture in the black shirt.... he's moving!!)
I even put up more pics on Shutterfly this afternoon! Go me!!
