Yesterday was my second annual trip to Silver Lake with the girls. It was every bit as fun as last year, and then some.

On Thursday afternoon, I finally got to meet, face-to-face, a cyberfriend I've been in touch with for several years online, Karin, who lives in Connecticut (yeah, that was a total run-on sentence, wasn't it?). Anyway....

She arrived at my house about 2:30ish Thursday and I swear it didn't seem like we were meeting for the first time. It was like we were old friends (which, in a way, we are). And my boys? They adored her! She is absolutely amazing with children, it's unreal!

At one point, Evan was repeating the word "carrot" (which I thought was because we did have carrots at dinner). But when he turned around and plopped his butt down on Karin's lap saying, "Carrot. Sit." we figured out that he was saying "Karin." Haha!

After I had Evan in bed Thursday night, Karin, Kerry, and I went out to dinner (where we sat for almost two hours just talking).

We left yesterday morning for Silver Lake and got there about 11:00ish. Went to Lake Michigan for a quick walk on the beach, back to Katy's cabin for lunch, then we pontooned across Silver Lake and hung out on the dunes for enough hours to give me a sunburn despite having greased up with SPF 30.

We climbed a really, really, really tall, steep dune. One that reminded me that, no matter how awesome I'm doing with this Couch-To-5K program and no matter how many kettlebell squats I can do, I still got a ways to go. That dune kicked. my. butt. But we all made it to the top and admired the view. Going down was much, much easier!

Before we went back to the cottage, Katy's daughters (Emily & Jessica) wanted to climb the dune too. So their dad took them. It wasn't long before we looked up and saw this:

(What you're seeing is Emily almost all the way up, and Steve -- climbing the dune with nearly 50-pound Jessica on his shoulders! He's a superhero!) Yikes!!

Pontooned back across the lake, had dinner (hamburgers on the grill!), then moseyed on down to the lake where we enjoyed a bonfire on the beach, complete with wine, beer, and Mike's Hard Lemonade in various flavors. Can you say yum?

Isn't that lovely? Yeah, it was.

After we were up & around this morning, Kerry & I headed home together while Karin proceeded to go up north to stay with Danielle a couple nights before flying back to Connecticut on Monday.

I love these girls! These are friends who have gotten me through some very dark days as Dan & I were trying to build our family. We've all been through our own personal hells, and I just don't know how people do it without friends like these.....
