After today, The Van will be closer to age 2 than he is to age 1 (!!). How the heck did that happen?!  His 18-month doctor visit is next Thursday evening so I'll have weight & length at that time (my guess is that he's at least 29 pounds though).

Wearing: I believe he has officially grown out of the 12-month pants. Moreso due to the belly than the length of his short legs, but the 18-month pants aren't ridiculously long or anything. And we're about to bust out 24-month tops because he's busting out of the 18-month tops. He's wearing Size 4 diapers during the day, and I actually bought Size 4 Huggies Overnights last month accidentally instead of 5's and he's doing fine in those.

Eating: He's getting pickier by the day, but his belly is showing no signs of de-bellying. He plays with his food at dinner most evenings, and his breakfast is very light (banana and cereal bar or waffle, though he often doesn't eat the whole cereal bar or waffle). He loves these fruit + veggie pouches that he can suck the food out of (it's just pureed fruit & veggies in a pouch, like baby food, but whatever works, I guess....) -- I give him one of those almost every night with dinner because it's a serving of fruit and vegetables, and he's guaranteed to eat it. I never thought I'd see the day where I'd have to "force" Evan to eat.

Sleeping: We tried to move his bedtime back to 7:30 a couple weeks ago after time change, but that was kind of a big fail because mornings were NOT pleasant. But 6:30-6:45ish was becoming too early for him because he'd lay in there talking and playing, so we settled on 7:15ish, which has been so-far-so-good. Most nights he talks for a couple minutes and then conks out. Tonight, however, it was after 8:30 before we stopped hearing his monologue. He sleeps till after 7am on weekends, often 7:30-8:00 before we hear him. I love this boy, really, I love him!!

Teeth: He officially has all his teeth except his 2-year molars: 8 on top, 8 on bottom.

Talking: He's repeating almost everything now and is becoming much more intelligible, especially in the last couple weeks. Unprompted, he'll say: foot, nose (noe), bye (byes, while waving which is incredibly adorable), daddy, mommy, kitty (khee), food, more, juice (jush -- rhymes with "push"), Pat (Pah or Pap), cheese (for the camera), and of course the toddler's favorite, "No!".... that's all I can think of right now. But he will repeat almost anything. Daddy is teaching him "Stormtrooper." Yes, he really does try to repeat it but it comes out more like "pa-pa-poe." Daddy beams with pride.

Miscellaneous: He still likes to dance, but not as much as he used to that I've noticed.

He's really good at the steps, both up and down. But he did take a tumble at my Mom's house a couple weeks ago for the first time. Scared him, but didn't hurt him at all.

I think he's got a higher pain tolerance than Sean did/does. Evan seems to be able to take a beating and not even flinch. We were outside in shorts a lot last week, and at one point he took a spill on the sidewalk. It looked pretty bad, but he just got up and kept moving so I didn't think anything of it. A little later, I noticed he had a nasty scrape on his knee and it was bleeding. I have no idea how he didn't even wince! This pain tolerance factoid does not apply to diaper rashes, however, for which he will scream "Owie, owie, owie" during a diaper change, complete with tears. Who can blame the kid?

We still (*cough, cough*) give him a bottle at night. It's just milk, and it's just at night before bed. But we haven't given that up yet. We're de-bottling after I get back from Vegas. I don't think it'll be too bad, but I'm not looking to change things up on him now when I'm about to leave him for 4 days.
